One of the popular trekking trails of Bhutan is Gangtey Gogona trek that leads to the beautiful isolated valleys of Phobjikha, Gogona and Khotokha along with some wonderful Dzongs, Chortens and Museum in Paro and Thimphu. The Gangtey Gogona trekking trail goes through several mixed forest of bamboo, magnolia, juniper, rhododendron, oaks and many more with muddy, rough and rocky experience. This trekking is considered as one of the finest low altitude trek in Bhutan. The Gangtey Gogona trek leaves the Gangtey valley at an altitude of 2,830 meter. The trek, then leads towards south and then west through the meadows and fields. It then takes us to the glacial Phobjikha valley at 3,000m which lies to the East Mountains of Wangduephodrang. Then the trek leads to visit other villages such as Gogona and Khotokha.

TRIP DETAILS

Day 01: Arrive Paro and transfer to Thimpu

Today, we take an early morning flight and arrive at Paro, where you will be meeting our representative and then you will be transferred to Thimpu once we cover up the formalities. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 02: Thimphu to Gangtey

Having our breakfast in the morning, we head for Thimpu tour visiting National Memorial Chorten, Tashichhodzong, National Library and Institute for Zorig Chusum (the Painting School). We stop by here to observe these beautiful history piece and then make our way to Gangtey. On our way, we cross Dochu-la pass (3,088m) and drive by Wangduephodrang Dzong. Overnight at camp/farm house.

Day 03: Gangtey Gompa to Gogona

We climb through the windy trails and walk gradually over the fields and meadows and pass Tsele-la pass (3,400m). From here, the trails descends gradually through junipers, bamboo, magnolias and rhododendron forests. With a short climb afterwards, we reach Gogona village. The people residing here were originally nomads and they speak Bjopkha language. Overnight camp.

Day 04: Gogona to Khotokha – 6 to 7 hours walk

Walking through the windy pathways, we climb through the forest of firs, oak, spruce, rhododendron, cypress and junipers. We then look up to Shobju-la pass (3,400m) and then descend to the valley of Khotokha. Overnight at camp.

Day 05: Khotokha to Chazam/Wangduephodrang – 5 to 6 hours walk

We ascend through the paths uphill and downhill observing the vegetation and finally reach Wangduephodrang, which is the destination point of our trek. Overnight at camp.

Day 06: Back to Thimphu

After exploring the attractive Wangduephodrang and Punakha valleys, we drive back to Thimphu. In the afternoon, we go for sightseeing in Thimphu that includes visit to Folk Heritage and National Textile Museums, Papermaking Factory, Handicrafts Emporium and the market here.  Overnight at Hotel.

Day 07: Back to Paro

Early morning, we move for Paro visiting Simtokha Dzong on our way from here. We will also take this chance to visit Ta Dzong (National Museum), Drukgyel Dzong, Kyichu Lhakhang and Rinpung Dzong. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 08: Depart from Paro

We catch our respective flights to our destination enjoying the mountain views from the aircraft. You will be leaving Bhutan and we will be bidding our final farewell hoping to see you again.
