Trek to upper Mustang via Terri La pass is one of the nomadic and adventurous trekking that leads to a fully Tibetan culture zone of Nepal. The trek passes through two restricted areas: Nar Phu Villages and upper Mustang through Teri La pass at a height of 5595m. The hidden village Nar & Phu have a lifestyle of a primitive age with joint family and mud walled houses. The trek is really beautiful that follows ancient trade routes which passes over Upper Mustang. During the trek, you can experience the beautiful Sculpted canyons and fantastic rock formations, Tibetan Buddhist Gompas, unexplored cave complexes, Holi Kaligandaki river and several snow capped mountains. The best time for this trek is between mid April to October.

TRIP DETAILS

Day 01: Arrival

Upon arrival to Kathmandu Airport, our representative will drop you to Hotel. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 02: Visit to Kathmandu Valley

After having early morning breakfast at the hotel, we move for sightseeing around Kathmandu valley. The sightseeing includes the most popular historic places in Kathmandu such as Kathmandu Durbar Square, Swayambhunath, Boudhhanath, and Pashupatinath. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 03: Drive to Besisahar – 5 to 6 hours drive

Having our breakfast at the hotel, we drive to Besisahar. Overnight at lodge or camp.

Day 04: Drive to Chame – 5 to 6 hours drive

After taking our morning breakfast, we drive to Chame via Dharapani. The drive is pleasing as we go through the greeneries around us. Overnight at lodge or camp.

Day 05: Trek to Meta (3900m) – 6 to 7 hours walk

We begin our walk along the forest area and cross a small suspension over Marsyangdi River. We get to observe hot springs on our way enjoying the serenity of the area. We then climb uphill to reach Meta. Overnight at camp or lodge.

Day 06: Trek to Naar (4000m) – 4 to 5 hours walk

We climb through the trail and cross a suspension. We are then able to catch Pisang peak, Chulu east and Chulu west on our way to reach Naar. Naar is the largest village in the area inhabited by Tibetan origin (Manange) people. Overnight at camp or lodge.

Day 07: Rest/Acclimatization day at Naar. Overnight at camp or lodge.

Day 08: Trek to Dharamsala (4200m) – 5 to 6 hours walk

We begin our journey with pleasing views of Hemlung, Bhrikuti, Chulu East, Chulu West and stop at Yak Kharka for lunch. From here, we walk for a while to arrive at Dharamshala. Overnight at camp or lodge.

Day 09: Trek to Bhera Kharka (4200m) – 5 to 6 hours walk

We move through the deserted with some uphill and downhill climb to reach Bhera Kharka. Overnight at camp.

Day 10: Trek to Terri La Base Camp (4300m) – 3 to 4 hours walk

Our trail passes along the river bed with spectacular views of Hemlung, Bhrikuti and Chulu east/west mountains. Overnight at camp.

Day 11: Cross Terri La (5700m) and trek to Yak Khola (4700m) 6 to 7 hours walk

We take the shorter and better trail to Terri La and continue uphill walk. Upon reaching here, you will be mesmerized by the views of the surrounding mountains that are tall and near. We walk further to Yak Khola. Overnight at camp.

Day 12: Trek to Bheda Chower (3700m) – 4 to 5 hours walk

Our trail descends now to Bheda Chower. We walk along a landslide area with loose stones and mud downhill to reach Bheda Chower. Overnight at camp.

Day 13: Trek to Tange Kharka (3800m) – 4 to 5 hours walk

Walking along the grassy lands and crossing Small River, we ascend via a narrow trail with the views of Mustang valley, Nilgiri, and Chaulagiri. Further walking takes us to Tange Kharka. Overnight at camp.

Day 14: Trek to Tange (3200m) – 2 to 3 hours walk

With our short walk to Tange, we are able to view Upper Mustang valley, Dolpa and mustang border, Nilgiri, and Dhaulagiri. Overnight at camp or lodge.

Day 15: Trek to Yara (3500m) – 5 to 6 hours walk

We climb uphill for an hour and along the plain grassland before we reach Yara. Overnight at camp or camp.

Day 16: Trek to Lo Manthang (3730m) – 5 to 6 hours walk

We pass through a beautiful Chorten and continue uphill walk to Lo Manthang ridge; Lo Manthang village appears spectacular from here and we move our way to Lo Manthang village. Overnight at lodge or camp.

Day 17: Explore Lo Manthang

Today, we explore the village, Lo Manthang meaning “Plains of Prayer”. The whole city is walled and packed together where the King lives in his palace who is referred as “Lo Gyalpo” meaning King of the South, but his name is Jigme Bista.

Lo Manthang has three monasteries – the Chamba Lakhang where the massive 45-foot statue of Maitreya, the future Buddha stands; the Thugchen Lakhang with several large images of Sakyamuni, Avolokitsevara and Maitreya and the Chodi that has several monks in residence, which is also the site of annual Mani Rimdu festival in May (called “Tegi” in Lo Manthang).  Overnight at camp or lodge.

Day 18: Trek back to Ghami (3520m) – 6 to 7 hours walk

Having our breakfast, we first move to Tsarang and then walk downhill to reach Ghami.  Overnight at camp or lodge.

Day 19: Trek to Samar (3660m) – 6 to 7 hours walk

We cross Sangmoche La at an altitude of 3830m and then walk downhill gently to Samar. Overnight at camp or lodge.

Day 20: Trek back to Kagbeni – 5 to 6 hours walk

With gentle downhill walk crossing the Kali Gandaki Bridge, we first arrive at Chuksang and then move further to reach Kagbeni. Overnight at camp or lodge.

Day 21: Trek back to Jomsom – 4 to 5 hours walk

We walk downhill along the river bank of Kali Gandaki to reach Jomsom. Overnight at lodge or camp.

Day 22: Fly back to Pokhara; Fly to Kathmandu

After breakfast, we catch our flight to Pokhara first and then to Kathmandu. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you will be transferred to your Hotel. Overnight at Hotel.

 (Note: The above itinerary is a just a guideline. Itineraries are subject to change to suit the local conditions and other factors. At times the flights may either be delayed or even cancelled for a day or more, mostly because of bad weather. At such condition, we recommend our guests to have one extra day in Kathmandu post trek. And because the trekking is in the restricted area, some changes might be made as per the Government policies.)
